M.Mariska Spring 2010 Collection

Trend Spotting

Looking out your window right now, you possibly thinking that this so isn't spring time in New York. The scenery is dank and dismal and no one wants to venture outside to enjoy the day. Despite the weather conditions there are many ways we can still have a good time outdoors today and through out the week. For those of you who like to go out and have a good time and soak up some fresh air, wihtin the coming week there are some things tou can take advantage of. But before we jump ahead of ourselves, lets start with today. Spring is here and while some of you might not have a clue as to what to wear, here are a few tips to looking your best on even he dismal of days like today.

Start off simple ladies. Work with what you got. Look into your closet, do the once over and work from there. If you are going into the office today, a nice blazer always works. But you have to know how to dress it up. To make it look fashionable and chic. One way of doing that is to either wear it with some cropped slacks or jeans and a plain top. Plain being free of designs or anything extravigant. At the same time, you want to make a statement. So go for a pop of color that compliments your complexion. If you blazer is pastel or an earth tone, going for a warmer color would be ideal and vice versa if its's a cool color.  Wearing jeans to the office totally depends on the type of job environment you work in.

If you prefer to wear a skirt on a day like today, please be sure to wear one standard color tights or leggins. since its not so warm out, you want to respect and protect. for the point being that this is also cold and flu weather. Being a sick fashionista in the office is not whats hip. Now to pull this look together for an complete head to toe  look, some nice accessories will work fine. However it also depends on your level of comfortability. while some women were born to wear heels, others aren't. But have no fear, just because you not a fan of heels, doesn't mean you cant still look fashionable. Pairing this outfit with some nice ballet flats will work just fine.

One important fact.....always make sure you give yourself the once over in the mirror before you leave for your day. nobody likes to look a mess. once you have done that.....voila.....you have successfully transformed something oh so simple into something oh so chic. And there you have it, The M.Mariska simple steps to keeping up with the trends.

Blaze The Runway

Blaze The Runway

This video was taken by a friend of mine a few months ago. I was invited to do a fashion show after a very long hiatus from my passion, and as much as the image and sound quality sucks, I'd love if you guys would offer some valuable feedback on the clothing I featured as apart of my spring collection. Eventhough the show took place back in January of this year, three shows later, my collection is still growing. With every new show, there are new pieces being added and featured. Thinking back, I remember a Project Runway contestant doing almost the same thing I'd like to call "classism". Yes I know its not quite a word, but I define it as being more versatile in the fashion community. Each designer should have classism I believe. Showing the same piece becomes quite a wash out and boring at the same time. So as a means to hold the audience's attention, us designers do whatever needs to be done to keep our following wondering. As much as my collection differs a lot form Korto Momolu's (Project Runway Contestant) I feel that we have that bit in common.
